Rising House and Rental Prices. Rising costs to Transit Passes. Rise in prices in food and gas. The cost of living on the North Shore will continue to rise unless we do something about it.

It’s clear that today’s housing market is unaffordable for most young adults and families. Our policies should focus on ensuring adequate, affordable housing for all.
Short Term Goals
- Expand the existing “Affordable Housing Reserve Fund” to give more incentives to homeowners.
- Expand the existing “Housing Initiatives Grant” to homeowners specifically building for senior housing and those with disabilities.
- Streamline Inclusionary Housing Policy to raise both the amount of units to 30% and streamlining rental rates to 30% to match BC Housing’s definition of Rental Affordable.
- Increase the amount of units secured via the Inclusionary Housing Policy towards stratified developments from 2% to 10%.
Long Term Goals
- Look into the viability and implementation of rent-to-own programs.
- Creation of a Workforce Housing program, securing 20% of net new units to be dedicated for individuals and families earning $30-80,000 per year.
- Proactive engagement with provincial government to spur to help ensure housing targets are hit with sufficient diversity.
- Proactive engagement with the federal government to engage them in helping fund affordable, local housing.
- Look to optimize housing options to better incentivize homeowners to densify their single-lot homes.

Short Term Goals
- Continuation of the NSTS, ‘North Shore Transportation Survey’, to ensure clear and precise reporting on current, deliverable actions, and anticipating future travel needs.
- Advocating for the implementation of a 25$ Low Income Transit Pass Program.
- Advocating Translink for more than one BRT line being implemented on the North Shore.
- Working with Translink to ensure more consistent and frequent transit service on the North Shore.
Long Term Goals
- Working with Translink to ensure a detailed policy plan on actually increasing transit mode share, as well as improving internal mobility and north-south travel.
- Advocating for robust North Shore Infrastructure Investment, which includes a replacement plan for our aging bridges as well as implementation of a diverse system of rapid transit like Skytrain.
- Updating the current Mobility Strategy through clear, precise details of North Shore’s Transit Plan for the upcoming 4-8-12 years to showcase a more proactive stance on building for and around our infrastructure issues.
Recreational and Community Services for All

Short Term Goals
- Advocate for more transit services and alternative transit modes to recreational hubs to strengthen community bonds.
- Work with the North Vancouver Recreation Commission to expand and create more programs to help reduce the cost of using recreation facilities.
- Advocate that the setup for the Harbourfront Outdoor Pool is similar to the one at Kitsilano Pool.
- Not delay funding for a skate park roof, which was promised in 2022 by the Council.
Long Term Goals
- Advocate and push for NVRC to ensure all current and future lifeguard jobs are part-time or full-time rather than auxiliary to promote worker retention and decrease burnout.
- Advocate for closer financial ties when it comes to funding of recreational facilities, rather than facility decisions being based on which side of the boundary the facilities lie on.
- Advocate for a North Shore Curling Rink, since no public rink has been accessible since 2014.

- Streamlining our Inclusionary Housing Policy to be aligned to what is defined by BC Housing as what is considered to be Rental Affordable.
- Prioritize and expedite the permitting process to get more childcare zoning across the City.
- Working with Homeowners to find what financial incentives would allow them to take down bureaucratic obstacles and build multiplex homes or affordable units.
Long Term Goals
- Advocate for the viability and implementation of a city-operated, not-for-profit grocery store.
- Increase diversity in housing supply when it comes to non-market, senior, those with disabilities and workforce housing.
- Maintaining current affordable housing units, looking to renovate rather than tear down old building units to help modernize older buildings.
